Jazz`n Chisinau International Festival, 6th edition

JAZZ’n Chișinău International Festival, ediția VI, aduce spiritul jazz-ului autentic la Chișinău!

În cele mai bune tradiții jazz-iste, JAZZ’n Chișinău International Festival, adună unii dintre cei mai tari jazz-mani mondiali la Chișinău. Îndrăgitul festival se va desfășura în perioada 17-19 aprilie, la Filarmonica Națională “Serghei Lunchevici”, în fiecare zi de eveniment începând cu ora 19:00. Vino să trăiești, cu adevărat, spiritul liber și creativ al muzicii jazz, alături de muzicieni care radiază energia jazz-ului prin fiecare notă luată.

20:00 – „Frederik Köster / die Verwandlung” (Germania) – Frederik Köster (trompeta, liderul formaţiei), Florian Weber (piano), Joscha Oetz (contrabas) şi Jonas Burgwinkel (tobe).

Scopul acestui festival este să „cultive” un curent nou în jazz-ul de la noi şi să demonstreze că JAZZ’n Chişinău International Festival este mai mult decât un festival, este o idee care schimbă şi diversifică jazz-ul local.

Débo Ray is an musical artist with 10 years experience in professional singing, vocal instruction, composing, and arranging, with an active touring schedule with many collaborative musical endeavors. Her unique sound blends into a tool with a world
perspective, as she endeavors to share her story, and inspire others to do the same.

Duo project alongside prolific drummer Patrick Simard, taking influences from classical, jazz, rock, electronic, and traditional Haitian music.

Debo creates a haven in which her students can identify their vocal needs on a personal basis. She provides them with the necessary techniques to educate themselves, whatevertheir level of study may be. These include breath support/control, tone quality, interpretation,song study, genre/style analysis, diction/speech training, and performance techniques.

   AGA DERLAK TRIO

26 year old Aga Derlak, despite her young age, has gained a wide recognition in Polish Jazz society. Derlak is constantly shaping her own musical identity with great maturity and awarness.
Aga Derlak is a pianist and composer. She learned from the best Polish pianists: Michał Tokaj and Paweł Tomaszewski. She has been awarded during numerous competitions and participated in the most prestigous Polish and European Jazz Fetsivals.

Aga Derlak Trio has received the most important Polish music award – The Award Of Polish Phonography Academy – FRYDERYK 2016 for the best jazz debut.

Aga Derlak Trio has been created in 2013 by the leader. The band consists of the bass player: Tymon Trąbczyński and the drummer: Szymon Madej. The trio performs its own compositions and arrangements which are a reflection of various music influences and experiences.
Aga Derlak Trio succeeded in many Polish and interational contests. The band is the winner of: International Jazz Juniors contest (2013), Contest of Young Blues and Jazz Bands in Gdynia (2013). The pianists was rewarded indvidually during Krokus Jazz Festival (2014), Czech Jazz Contest (2015) and Zilina International Jazz Competition (2016). The trio performs around Europe and participated in the following festivals:

In 2015 Aga Derlak Trio released their debut album „First Thought” in Slovakian record company Hevhetia. In April 2017 Aga Derlak Trio released their second album „Healing” which is an inspiring story about emotional and spiritual experiences of the young artist.

TAMARA LUKASHOVA

 

Tamara Lukasheva was born in Odessa, Ukraine in a famiy of Musicians, so from the very young age she was surronded with the sounds of music.At the age 15 the professional vocal life for Tamara begins. She was invited to the unique big band of a south Ukraine as a soloist, sang with such outstanding jazz musicians of Ukraine as U.Kuznecov, N.Lebedeva, A.Fantaev. Had a duo with Roksana Smirnova.

In September 2010 she moved to Germany to study at the High School of Music and Dance in Cologne. One month after arriving she founded a quartet that is now one of the most important projects in her career.

In 2011 Tamara won Voicingers 2011, an international Jazz Vocal Competition in Poland.

In 2012 she took the 1st prise by the 6th International Jazz Vocal Competition in Finsterwalder (Germany)

From 2012-2013 she became a regular member in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Germany (Bujazzo).A nd in 2016 her Big Band Arrangement took the first price at Bujazzo Composition Competition.

Spring 2013 – Tour in Central America with “Matthias Schriefl Trio”

2013/14 – Cooperation with WDR Big Band (Global Dance Culture Project ), MAO ( Modern Art Orhcestra, Hungary), UdK Big Band, Berlin.

2014 – Tamara Lukasheva Quartett is the winner of  “Young German Jazz Prize Osnabrück’’ ( Junger Deutscher Jazz Preis 2014)

2015 – Tamara Lukasheva Quartett took the 2nd price at “Keep an Eye Jazz Awards Amsterdam”.

2016 – 1st Place at Composition and Arrangement Competition for Bujazzo Big Band.

2017 – “Tamara Lukasheva Quartett” the winner of “New German Jazz Prize Mannheim 2017” (Neuer Deutscher Jazz Preis Mannheim 2017) and also Tamara receives a Solo Prize.

ROMAN TULEI TRIO

1. Roman Tulei (Piano)
Roman Tulei was born on May, 8, 1978 in Cahul, Moldova.He began his musical education at the age of eight with piano lessons at the „M.Ciobotari” .Music School in Cahul, Moldova. He composed his first music piece at the age of 12, as he was starting to become interested in composition and to take part in various competitions.
Roman was the winner of the „Young Musicians” (Moldova) competition in 1990 and 1991.He later received classical pianist training in Moldova at the „St. Neaga” Music College in Kishinev (1994–1998) and at the „G. Musicescu” Academy of Music (Moldova, 1998–2003),successfully graduating in 2003 as a professional pianist. Inspired by B. Evans, K. Jarrett and H. Hancock, Roman founded his trio with O. Baltaga (drums) and A. Murzac (bass), and together they performed many concerts between 2001 and 2004 . In addition, his engagements as a solo pianist took him to Ireland, Germany and Switzerland.
After his classical training, Roman decided to enhance his knowledge of jazz music. From 2004 to 2008, he attended the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, where he learned from greatteachers such as William Evans, Billy Brooks, George Robert, Andy Scherrer, Sandy Patton and Bert Joris, and took master classes with internationally recognized pianists Enrico Pieranunzi, Bruce Barth, etc.
Since 2006, Roman is teaching at the Zurich Conservatory of Music.
He plays with various bands and projects which encompass jazz, fusion, pop and salsa.
The „Roman Tulei Trio” with Lorenz Beyler (bass) and Tobias Friedli (drums) exists since 2008 and regularly performs at various concert revenues.
2. Lorenz Beyeler (Double Bass)
Lorenz Beyeler began his musical career as a cellist and moved to a double bass a few years later.
After completing secondary school, he studied at the Jazz Department of the University of Music and Theatre with master musicians Thomas Dürst, Peter Frei, Béla Szedlàk and Bänz Öster. Today, in addition to working in established groups such as the „Daniel Woodtli Trio”, Till
Grünewald’s „Phonosource”, the „Swiss Jazz Orchestra”, „Hackbrettplus”, „Contreband”, „Oli Kuster Kombo” and „Michael Zisman Trio”, his musical activities also include various engagements as a sideman with George Robert, Sandy Patton, Francis Coletta, Mats Spielmann, Stewy von Wattenwyl, Andy Harder, Heinz Bigler, Rory Stuart, Mike Goetz, Mark Soskin and Joan Faukner, among others. His concert career has so far led him to appearances at the Jazz Festivals in Bern, Montreux,
Zurich, Langnau, Cully, and Cannes. As part of several workshops, he attended master classes with double bass greats including
Ray Brown, Rufus Reid, and Jay Anderson.
3. Tobias Friedli (Drums)

Tobias Friedli, born in Zurich in 1978, began having drum lessons at the age of 10. The joy ofplaying music grew over the years, and soon enough he participated in his first concert in the Zurich area. Accordingly, Tobias was also supported from an early age by musicians such as Peter Frei and Andy Brugger from the Swiss jazz scene. He had the opportunities to play together with Bob Berg, Randy Brecker, Buster Cooper, Christian Jacob, Mike Richmond, and Adam Nussbaum in the „Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra”. From 1999 to 2003, he attended the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, where he studied with Billy Brooks, George Robert, Andy Scherrer, William Evans and Bert Joris. As part of his training, he attended several workshops with Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid, Bob Mintzer 4tet, Dre Pallemaerts, Billy Hart, and also played in several concerts with the Swiss Jazz School Big Band (including with Matthias Rüegg, director of the Vienna Art Orchestra, and the New York Voices). After graduation, he went to New York for three months in order to take his studies with this instrument even further. He attended classes taught by Ali Jackson and Amir Ziv. Tobias Friedli has been living and working in Bern since graduation, teaching at the BernConservatory of Music. He also works as a freelance drummer for various projects. Recipient of the Most Promising Band prize at the Generations Festival 2000 in Frauenfeld. Winner of the „Best Young Soloist” prize at the Zurich Jazz Festival.Took part in the International Interlaken Jazz Workshop in 2002.
2003: Residence period in New York and further training with Amir Ziv and Ali Jackson,
thanks to a grant from the Friedl Wald Foundation.
Since 2003: Performed various concerts and tours with the Swiss Jazz Orchestra (including
with Phil Woods, Buddy DeFranco, Bert Joris, and Jim McNeely).

Frederik Köster (dob 14.10.1977) graduated in music teaching in Detmold, further in jazz trumpet and jazz composition/arranging in Cologne. In 2007 Frederik was appointed professor for jazz trumpet at the Hochschule für Musik der Fachhochschule Osnabrück and since 2010 he is also teaching at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover.Based in Cologne, he has enjoyed playing with a variety of internationally acclaimed jazz artists: Phil Woods, Albert Mangelsdorff, Ack van Rooyen, Biréli Lagrene, Randy Brecker, Hiram Bullock, Jiggs Whigham, Nils Wogram, Simon Nabatov, Wolfgang Haffner, Nils Landgren, Rick Margitza, Jane Monheit, Lalo Shiffrin, Trilok Gurtu, Nils Petter Molvaer, Johannes Enders, Paul Heller, Niels klein, Michael Wollny, Florian Weber, WDR Big Band, HR Big Band, Peter Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination & Brass, etc.In September 2006 Frederik was awarded best soloist at the Jazz Hoeilaart International Contestin Belgium. The Frederik Köster quartet was awarded the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis 2009, with Frederik additionally claiming first prize for best soloist. In 2010 he was awarded an ECHO JAZZ for “ZEICHEN DER ZEIT” in the category “instrumentalist of the year national – brass instruments”. In October 2010 Frederik Köster was awarded the WDR Jazzpreis in the category “Improvisation”. In January 2013 he was awarded the Westfalen Jazzpreis. In 2017 He was awarded an ECHO JAZZ for “CANADA” in the category “instrumentalist of the year national – brass instruments”With his Gorups like the Frederik Köster Quartett and Die Verwandlung he released seven albums, played on well known international Jazz Festivals like the german Jazz Baltica, Moers Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam or the Euro Jazz Festival in Mexico City and toured with Support of the Goethe Institut to Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Portugal, Malaysia, Begium, Netherlands and India.Frederik’s latest Project is called Die Verwandlung (The Metamorphosis) with Sebastian Sternal (piano), Joscha Oetz (Double Bass) and Jonas Burgwinkel (drums).In 2009 Frederik Köster founded together with Tobias Hoffmann, Niels Klein, Pablo Held, Jonas Burgwinkel, Robert Landfermn und Tobias Christl the KLAENG JAZZ COLLECTIV.Reviews:“Frederik Köster’s new CD ‘Zeichen der Zeit’ is completely modern in conception and realization with world first! class playing and composing by Frederik and everyone else in this engaging band!” (Randy Brecker)“… His tone is superb and his solistic ideas are, quite simply, breathtaking! Ion Vîrlan jazz bass player born in Chisinau on the 18th May 1990,  currently living in Poland, Wroclaw
He graduated  College of Music Stefan Neaga from Chisinau in 2010,University of Music in  Bucharest in 2014, Academy of Music Karola Lipińskiego class jazz section Professor Jacek Niedziela-Meira Poland in 2016. Since the year
2010 he works in artistic field. He participated in the jazz  festival from Targu-Mures with Basarabian trio, festival from Sibiu, he was a member of the Bucharest Orchestra, Emil Bazga Big Band, member of the Hot Club in  Bucharest,  collaborated with Sorin Zlat Band, Garbis Dedian, Taras Backovskyy Quartet, Adam Blawicki Quintet, jazz quartet Izotop.
